Wiring

PT Overview / Engine / Transmission / Differential / Cooling

This seems to be the part of the project that most people dread.  When you start to consider a modern powertrain on top of this - it gets much worse than the seemingly "simple" wiring put on the car in 1968.  If you don't understand electrical principals and know how to read and understand electrical diagrams, this can be an absolute nightmare.  Thankfully we have a lot of background experience in electrical wiring, so this should not be too much of a daunting task.

The goal with the wiring is to retain the stock Mach 1 harnesses, and modify them to suit the needs and the packaging on the vehicles.  The Torinos will retain the cruise control, fan control, fuse and relay panels, ABS and traction control (still somewhat undecided), fuel pump control, keyless entry and alarm system, A/C system and most of the other Mustang functions.  Everything not used on the factory harnesses will be removed for simplicity and to reduce the weight (as the harnesses are not light).

If you are going to attempt to do something like this yourself - do not try anything without getting factory wiring diagrams.  Do yourself and get some factory manuals.  These were both bought for $10/each of Ebay shipped.

Quick Tips (More detailed information to come):

Mustangs from 1999 to 2004 feature the following wiring harnesses and components:

Engine Harness

Transmission Harness

Charging Harness

Battery Junction Box Harness

PCM Harness

CCRM (Constant Control Relay Module)
This relay module controls the high and low speed fans, fuel pump signal, and
      A/C Clutch
Aux Fuse Box
This has the circuit breaker for the low speed fan
On 2003/2004 Cobras, this also contains the relay for the intercooler pump

Main Body Harness

FPDM (Fuel Pump Driver Module)

Dash Harness

03/03/08 - Bring on the parts.

After searching online forums for a while now, we finally scored a set of wiring harness ($200 for all you see here!! - Thanks John) and a guage cluster (Thanks Geoff).  Doesn't this look like fun.  The harnesses will eventually make their way into the Torinos as it is much easier and cheaper to do this way.
